Where “Flying Hare” Came From

If you were wondering where the name for Flying Hare Social came from... 🐰🚀

In greyhound racing, the competing dogs run around a track in futile pursuit of an electronically propelled rabbit-like creature – effectively a flying stuffed rabbit on a long stick out in front of the dogs. As the rabbit flies round and round and round the track just out of the dogs' reach, they excitedly chase after their fast-moving target until one of them is declared the victor.

As a success-thirsty individual who has spent a lifetime placing her own self-worth on her achievements alone, I found myself exiting my twenties feeling burned out, resentful, and always looking toward the next big win – never enjoying this one. Like a greyhound who'd been chasing a mechanical rabbit with a severe case of the zoomies for YEARS.

- That new job? Not enough.
- Big Promotion? Eh, less exciting than I thought it'd be.
- More money? Great! Now I need more.
- Finished a marathon? We have to do it faster next time.

"More, more, more." Never, "way to go."

If you're still reading, you've probably made the connection by now. For those of you who were too bogged down in my self-reflective (and vaguely self-indulgent) rumination to get it... I own Flying Hare. I am Flying Hare.

By taking the risk of going out alone, I'm allowing myself to catch the fuzzy lure and to be proud of having tried it.
